Self-shooting camera skills 1: foundation is a one day workshop that teaches you all the practical skills you’ll need to be a good self-shooting camera operator. With advice from one of the UK’s leading directors of photography, Self-shooting camera skills 1: foundation covers everything from what you need to shoot for your edit to lighting and shot sizes. It’s a hands on course with lots of practical exercises and helpful information about self shooting.

Course content

You’ll learn all you need to shoot well-framed, properly-lit footage. There will also be advice on practical areas from getting your posture right while filming to choosing a good HD camera.

Areas covered include:

  • introduction to the camera
  • the lens – how it works
  • light – how to use and control it
  • what is a sequence – shot sizes and what they mean
  • long shots and panning smoothly
  • shooting a basic dialogue scene

Researchers, assistant producers and producers, journalists, and anyone with some shooting experience who wants to learn more.
