Compliance: Keeping up to date will give you an up-to-the-minute grounding on all the important compliance issues in broadcast production. This course will explain the key areas of the Broadcast Code and enable you to meet broadcaster requirements on compliance. Compliance: Keeping up to date will give you the knowledge and confidence to know where the boundaries are, and will help you avoid expensive and preventable mistakes.

About the course

  • Harm and offence: Where are the boundaries on swearing, humour, sex and violence? What is meant by context, and what “warning” can the audience expect, whether as viewer or consumer?
  • Protecting the under-18’s: What are your responsibilities towards young people – as viewers, consumers and programme participants?
  • Fairness and privacy: How do you ensure your dealings with contributors and subjects are fair, what consents are required, and when is intrusion “warranted”?
  • Due impartiality and due accuracy: What are the rules? How do you make authored/ personal view programmes?
  • Crime: How should you deal with criminals or show their techniques? Can you pay criminals or witnesses?
  • The rules on product placement, commercial references, sponsorship & ad-funding
