The Rising Directors Scheme is giving emerging directors a chance to produce and direct their own documentary. You will have a burning idea that you’re keen to make and this programme will give you the support and confidence to produce and direct your idea in to your first 3minute short.
Training will commence from mid-March with a fast-track intensive directors’ refresher programme to ensure your technical and storytelling skills are on top form. You will learn the technical and editorial skills required for today’s multi-skilled, documentary director role.
You will be given a £5K budget and will have between March and the end of May to produce, direct, edit produce and complete your film. Throughout the production process, there will be a range of skills-based masterclasses that will be tailored to your needs as a non-scripted director. You will be allocated an executive producer mentor to provide extra support and guidance during the process.
You will not only finish the programme with your completed 3 min film showcased at Sheffield Doc/Fest, that could help launch a successful directing career, but you’ll also be supported by like-minded directors, industry talent and contacts to help further your career and troubleshoot any future work.
A 4 day Shooting PD course in Manchester in November/December 2015, supported by Creative Skillset. This course will provide 10 participants with a fantastic training in producer, director and self shooting skills, plus we are offering follow up shadowing and mentoring opportunities. We hope this will be a successful model that we can roll out to other regions in 2016.
ITF works alongside PACT to provide the training for the PACT Indie Diversity Scheme. This year ITF provided 14 training modules for the IDS runners, ranging from data wrangling to research skills to understanding the industry. We’ve had fantastic feedback from the trainees and have learnt a lot from them too.
ITF is also a training provider to the Creative Diversity Network and the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Sky. We will be providing the face to face training sessions for the Diamond diversity monitoring system that will be rolled out in early 2016.
